Welcome to this week’s segment of BuzzBurn, your weekly minute on the Buzzword you love to hate. This week’s word is…Widget.
Although the word is fun to say and summons images of garden gnomes, a Widget is defined as a standardized on-screen representation of a control that may be manipulated by the user. Scroll bars, buttons, and text boxes are all examples of basic Widgets. But lately with addition of Widgets as a Google AdWord Unit…they are officially the new word to drop at all new concept marketing meetings.
Wanna pull the NBA All-Star Ballot into your site, make a Widget do the work. There are widgets for stocks, weather, you pretty much name it and you can make a widget out of it. The Widget is what the iPod was to MP3 players. Sure we pulled dynamic 3rd party content into our sites before, MJI has been doing this for years…but the Widget makes it sexy and sleek.
Even though many are already tiring of the Widget Mania…it’s here to stay.
